Ever gotten suddenly hungry on a bowhunting trip without a packed lunch? If so, learning a few simple recipes that can be readily prepared on the campsite is what you need.
Simple Rabbit Stew
Ingredients:
• 1 Rabbit
• 2 Onions
• 2 Celery Stalks
• 1 Green Pepper
• Salt and Pepper
• 2-3 Cloves of Garlic
• 1-2 Carrots
• 2 tbsp. Tomato Paste or Ketchup
• 1 Cayenne Pepper (or none if you like it mild)
• 1 Cup of Water or Tomato Sauce
• 1 tbsp. of Oregano
• 1 tbsp. of Parsley
Preparation:
Dice the onions and garlic then cut up the celery, carrots, and the rabbit. Sauté the onions, garlic, and the rabbit then add the salt and pepper (sprinkle the salt and pepper according to your taste). When the rabbit is nearly cooked thoroughly, add in the chosen liquid (tomato sauce or water) then add the rest of the ingredients.
In bowhunting trips, this is a fairly easy dish to make because it’s a soup-based dish. The ingredients are also simple enough and the preparation is easy.
Grilled Barbeque Pheasant
Ingredients:
• 2 Pheasants
• Bay Leaves
• Salt and Pepper
• Barbeque Sauce
Preparation:
Cut up the pheasants’ backbones and take it out. Season the pheasants with bay leaves, salt, and pepper. Set the grill up only filling half of it with burning charcoal. Place the pheasants on the other side opposite of the charcoal then cover it. The trick here is, the slower you cook the pheasants, the better they will taste (not to mention tenderer). Next, brush the pheasants with barbeque sauce then flip it over then brush it again. Once the pheasants are charred and tender, place them on a plate and pour the barbeque sauce on it or set the barbeque sauce as a dip in a bowl.
This is a simple bowhunting recipe. With just a few spices and a grill, you’re all set to prepare a tasty dish.
Slow Cooked Pot Squirrel
Ingredients:
• 2 Squirrels
• 2 tbsp. Lemon Juice
• 2 Cloves of Garlic
• 1 tsp. Ground Ginger
• Salt and Pepper
• 4 tbsp. Water
• 4 tbsp. Soy Sauce
• 1 tbsp. Sugar
Preparation
Cook the squirrels in the pot until the meat can be separated from the bones. Take off the bones and resume cooking the squirrels then add the remaining ingredients. To thicken the sauce, add some flour or cornstarch.
This recipe is fairly easy and quick to prepare on bowhunting trips which makes it a great choice to opt for.
